How to reset Google Chromes Cookies and Cache Files?

Have you ever experienced sluggish loading times when trying to visit a webpage via Google Chrome or are you experiencing errors when trying to visit a webpage?

There are various factors to consider which may be causing the error to occur, however, some of the basic steps you could try and check over are:

1). Ensure you are running the latest version of Google Chrome, as of 11/02/2024 Chromes latest version is 122.0.6261.29  Release Date: 7 February 2024. Google tends to offer this information widely on their Blog which is regularly updated with version releases, identified bugs and security patches.

We closely monitor this information since we are on the lookout for any bugs or security patches that our clients need to be aware of, you can subscribe to our mailing list and we will be sure to deliver this information directly to your Inbox, alternatively, you can learn more on Google’s Blog by clicking here.

2). If you haven’t tried already, it would be a great idea to clear the cookies and cache files which are stored in the browser, these tend to generate automatically when you visit a webpage and to allow faster load time, the cache files are updated each time you visit a new or existing webpage. In certain instances, you may find your loading an old version of the webpage since you’re loading a cached version.

In such scenario, our recommendation would be to clear out those stored Cookies and Cache files, we will explain in depth of what you will need to do, however, be sure to select the correct options, since you will find more advanced options such as; to clear the password stored to your browser and the last thing we would want is you too lose any passwords you may not remember or have a record of!

  • Go ahead and open Google Chrome on Computer or Laptop, we will be right here with you for next steps.
  • Click on the three dots which are in a vertical line. (Located towards the top right)
  • From the drop-down menu select the option “Clear Browsing Data…”
  • Now that you have the Clear Browsing Data Prompt on your screen, you are ready to have a clean-up.
  • You have two options, one would be Basic, and the second one would be Advanced, for the purpose of this article, we will remain with the basic tab focused on three factors: "Browsing History", "Cookies and other site data", "Cached Images and Files". Each option will have a checkbox next to it, ensure they are all checked.
  • Now your all set and ready for the next step, at the bottom of the prompt, there will be a button called “Clear Data” that’s the button you need to press and once you have, the prompt will disappear.
  • Your all set, close Google Chrome by clicking on the "X" button located in the top right and then proceed to relaunch Chrome.
